Feeling woozy but the pain has gone, thank you Advil in all your corporate greatness....
Edgar and I worked on a song today that I started writing in *FUCK* maybe even 2001? I have a feeling that once it is out of the way other work will come with more ease. We also looked at our business plan and press kit together a bit. Makes me feel that the band is real and Edgar cares about my music and what I think -- I am enjoying those thoughts and living them through action. It feels very good. The menstruation on the other hand does not. Once again, a toast to Advil.
Piano lesson today - will not bore you on the details but I am progressing nicely and have moved on to some new technical excerises. Voice lessons are helping me build a practice and warm-up routine. Yay (boring, but yay). |

The Hollywood whirlwind phonecall --
I am trying to get permission from David Lynch to organize some kind of event in his honour that would not actually involve screening any films. I joined his pay-to-view website... no answers. Was able to get contact info for his agent from the other famous film David (Zellis), and I just called there. I was transfered about 6 times in 30 seconds until finally I found someone to talk to, who gave me a quick fax number then said, "gotta go, bye!" and hung up. Well at least I have a fax number now that I didn't have before, so I will view the experience as positive. I will let you know how it resolves. |

On that note, Jaimz and I were discussing what would happen if parents chose to name their child "Batman" as a first name. That kid would be really popular until ~ 12 or 13, then were not so sure... |

Ok now what. Jaimz left for Toronto - Frankfurt - Geneva - Lausanne this morning. He made it safely to Toronto and I figure he's on that big 747 to Frankfurt right now.
Today I decided to chill out and sleep until 12:30 (after I got home from the airport ~7:00). Went and got my bike from Gooches, tuned and played my harp on the porch while Snuffy wondered around and got into trouble with local kids.
Still waiting for EI. I find out by October 30. At that point I may franticly try and find work. Until then I am a music machine - 2 hours of piano practicing per day, I start vocal training with Jodie Borle tomarrow evening at 6:00 (that's huge, I think it will make a big difference in both my techinique and performance), I've got harp cards made so I can start pimping that again, and the Edgar seems to be interested in getting the Querkus happening. I also started writing another song - a rocker this time about the soul-crushing realities of my hopes and fears concerning Querkus. Well fuck I've got to be honest and if I can't do it in my expressive means than I am living a lie. |

I'm back in Winnipeg if anyone missed me. Had a very relaxing week in Anola looking after my mother (who has brain cancer in remission) so my dad could have some "time off" and hang out at the cabin and play golf and not have to send her (temporarily) to a convalescence home (she hates it there, can't blame her). Played an insane amount of piano, studied music history up to the Baroque era, recorded some ambience and some piano improv... that's about it. Not very exciting I know but I enjoyed it. I am very glad to be back though - I missed Jaimz to pieces and well I guess there is no place like home and I got a bit homesick. blah, blah, well so anyways I'm back. |

It isn't a good thing, trust me.
This past week I have been working for the Streets Maintenance division of the city. Yikes. It's yo-yo town. When was the last time these guys saw a real woman? They are beside themselves trying to conduct themselves around us. The dude I'm working with is a totally decent fellow (besides not really letting me do much work. I guess its weird making a girl work or something). And all the other yo-yos harass him with comments like, "I'd have a nice day too if I got to work with a woman!". One more day. The testosterone is almost unbearable. Can you die of testosterone poisoning?
In other news the whole seven notes package should have been shipped off today. Please keep your fingers crossed for us. I have been knocking on so much wood lately its getting rediculous. |

Back from an improptu camping trip that involved staying in the Carberry Motel the first night because all the campgrounds were full (don't expect there to be camping on the long weekend unless you book way inadvance I guess) -- the second night we were able to camp in Island Park in Portage La Prairie which was actually tonnes of fun. Oh and we didn't waste the Carberry experience either - the sand dunes and Devil's punchbowl were hiked - a hognose snake and some cool beetles were seen -- I had a good time. I wasn't as into drinkin' and partyin' as my cohorts -- well, there were 2 other female members of the group and neither of them was really into drinking either, just the dudes. Oh those party dudes afraid of their own birthdays -- but we forgive them and enjoy their spark.
Next year I would like to hike Epinette Creek with Jaimz for our first backpacking expedition. And either this fall or next year there has to be a canoe trip. I haven't been in a boat this year at all.
In other news Seven Notes is still coming together, I want to redo the vocal if there is time, its just "not right yet". Its passable but... you know the whole self-critic thing. Jaimz says its very good and the levels just need adjustment. So we'll see. |

Things progress.
1) Vocals - check. Guitar - check. Acoustic Grand Piano Recording at Unitarian Church - check.

2) Jaimz videotaped me playing the grand piano. I kind of look sad. I think I needed my coffee. Oh well.
3) Just Jeff's drums and a mad mixing session to follow. Then its all up to Jaimz.
4) Edgar is too "fat and unavailable" for pictures, so we'll have to use old ones unfortunately. Oh Balls. I need to make him do some form of cardio. Maybe he'll take kickboxing with me. But I may do belly dancing instead now. I don't know what to do exactly. And Josee wants to know what my plan is for piano lessons. I don't know what I want to do. Just that I want to continue pursuing my own music -- finish up a bunch of loose end things like my video pool audio project -- book some shows -- finish all those half written songs locked away in the computer -- train a drummer or two ... these are vague sept - dec plans.
Hopefully my life will consists of some suprise happenings as well as those which I am planning. |

mood: waiting by the phone music: Beatles - Why Don't We Do It In The Road
|
OK livejournal business - here's the forecast:
August 27 + 28 - work on this recording of Seven Notes of Music with Edgar. So I wait by the phone fo his call... I'll page him in 5 minutes... also I'm going to check out the Farrel Bros movie pitch at 6:30 or something at the Park Theatre.
August 29th - The "Paper" anniversary, numero uno. Includes a date at Wasabe on Broadway at the same table we ate at on that "apology date" after Jaimz drank that bottle of tequila at Kyle's big gay dance party a few days earlier (possibly the day before).
September 1st - record the drums for Seven Notes.
September 3rd - Edgar leaves for BC for 10 days.
September 9th - My job susposedly ends, although mt boss is fighting for an extra week for us.
September 11-17 - I am staying with my mom in Anola for a week so my dad can go to the lake and not worry about her. I plan to get all country domestic with her and can pickles, jam, and marinara sauce.
September 16th - Deadline for BravoFACT.
It will all happen. Also, Apryl if you are reading this I keep meaning to get your phone number from Jaimz but I haven't, we need to touch base and make plans as long as you are into some photography business with Querkus. We need the photos to be taken before Edgar leaves on the 3rd. |

Saw Filbatross play last night. Holy crap was that good. Great songs, tight performance... floored. Officially floored. I predict a Querkus-Filbatross show before the end of the year. I have become smitten with the Yamaha p200.
What else? The riverbanks have now been surveyed for Dutch Elm Disease. And the mud on the banks of the Red and Assiniboine smells of poo. Suprise.
Does anyone want to take me to the beach? I need to go at least once before summer ends.
Does anyone want to check out Querkus next Saturday? We'll be rocking with Jeff on drums. Collective Cabaret, August 13th @ 10:30. We're playing with Random Interference and Zoblotnicks. Both bands are interesting and strange and I'm not sure how to describe their sound well so just come check it out or the feeling of missing out may devour you from the inside. Or not, but we'd really like to see you. |

hey, what can comment on today, this fine sunday in June? Happy with those Querkus shows last weekend. Thanks again to everyone who came to help out / watch. The Annex was very nicely organized and Edgar didn't have any fits and break anything this time! We played 4 sets total and the videos work very well. And to all you who didn't come: we ended u not charging admission, and there was free dope! So there! Don't make the same mistake next time we take this on.
The Planetarium is awesome. Almost want to go to Planetarium @ Night every saturday... Volume was last night and we all would have really liked to go but Jeff was free to rehearse so we were jamming. Ended up with Latin and Reggae versions of October 16. That song is so "known" now it needs to be fucked around with so we're just jamming on it without backing tracks. We'll play it at our next show and who knows were it will lead us. But anyways, the Planetarium was a great experience, really professionally run, good sound system and teching - Scott Young is awesome too. He's the unscripted planetarium operator. He's also a kickass drummmer and may be playing with us the next time we have a gig and Jeff is too busy. Also, Apryl took fantastic pictures, some of which I hope to share soon.
Well I'm thinking Querkus: Our next gig:
Saturday, July 2nd @ 7:00 PM Osbourne Village Canada Day Weekend Street Festival, Stradbrook & Osbourne Stage. 1 40 minute set featuring the incredible talents of Jeff Konwalchuk on Drums. Also, its outside and of course FREE!! We will be giving away free suprises as well.
Still don't know my mark in gr 9 piano. Makes no difference...I can wait... The end will be the same... I can wait... |

The piano exam is finished. It left me feeling kinda empty for a few hours as I thought it would but I am certainly over that now and have moved on to other things. I have learned tonnes from classical training. My teacher wants me to continue and study grade 10... and it does make a lot of sense to keep going but it is so much time. I am going to solely (and soulfully) work on my video pool project and writing my own material at least until September. I may take a bit of voice training. My singing is getting about as good as it can get without training. My piano teacher says I can hold pitch correctly and have a beautiful tone but my voice gets tired quickly as it is untrained, which is true. So if I want to do this thing serously I have to be serious about singing too. Makes sense, I think.
Sent out a bunch of press releases tonight. Hope to have a big crowd at the approaching Querkus shows.
Querkus will perform live Friday, June 17, 2005 at the Annex Gallery (62 Albert St, 2nd Floor), Sets at 10:30 and 12 midnight. Lounge atmosphere, beverages by donation. Video art by Jaimz Asmundson and David Dalgliesh. Cover $5.
Querkus will also perform Saturday, June 18th at the Planetarium (190 Rupert Ave) as part of the Planetarium @ Night Series. Featuring video art by Jaimz Asmundson, and edgy topical science presentations. Show at 9:00 PM. Cover $7.50, includes free admission to the Science Gallery.
Guest percussionist Jeff Konwalchuk (Captain Keenan) will accompany Querkus for both show dates. |

Ouch I hurt, but its good to be home.
Man is there a lot of garbage falling out of the autobins around Selkirk ave. Why are they called "Autobins"? Are they somehow emptied "Automatically"?. Are they positioned near your "Automobile". I don't get it. But yeah, fucking piles of garbage. Our theory is that its the end of the month so everyone is moving and clearing out their shit.
The Blow Me party was full of awesome. People loved the film, and I'm very happy that most folks stuck around for Querkus (thanks!). Today I was pretty tired, I'm too old to run on 5 hours of sleep. I know that's sad but its very true.
Oh, and Koi Toy. Fun stuff. "I do not like to eat anything that I would not kill, but I'd kill you...." Aliza, Eve and Kelly are crazy fun. |

I get so tired after biking home from work. Yow I am tired. The wind can be a fucking brutal cunt.
But I like my job. The girl I work with is cool, she likes cbc stereo instead of pop crap so I'm happy. Just tired. SO everyday I will plow home, drink coffee (instany coffee with fake french vanilla cream... so bad but so fucking good!), and dig into the piano. And that's it.
Except tomarrow, please be advised :
Balanced Records presents... Fascade@137db Character of the Moment CD Release Party Friday May 27th, 2005 at the Barca Club (423 McMillan) Tickets $5 at the door* * featuring performances by Sarah Michaelson, Karen Asmundson (that's me!!), Fenom and Flutegirl. special guests include Sound Barriers, Turn the Gun, Grubbs, Influence, Satchel Paige, and DJ Dialog.
So come out and hear my triphop holler. I promise to entertain, as will the other fine folks featured during the evening. There are some very cool tracks on his disc. |

Jaimz has made this lovely poster for the shows, see? I spent my evening making backing tracks for 2 songs so Sebastian has someting to practice with and Jaimz has something to edit to. No piano practice for me tonight, what to do, what to do... I've working full time for the city and I'll just have to see. I valiantly vote for open minds versus panic attacks. Just have to wait and see. I do love the trees, though.
